We got a call from one of our regulars - the team at 7 West Cafe on Charles Street in downtown Toronto. They needed their awning canopies reinstalled above the windows before the St. Patrick's Day rush. The timing made sense: the pub was decked out in Irish flags, crowds were coming, and the entrance had to look sharp.
What the job actually involved
The canopies had been taken down earlier and needed to go back up. Sounds simple enough, but the building is an old multi-story brick structure right on Charles Street, so ladder access was tight and the work had to happen from height.

We brought a 40-foot extension ladder. On a building like this, with a narrow sidewalk and foot traffic passing below, setup alone takes thought. You are working above an active restaurant entrance with decorations, lights, and Irish flags strung across the facade.
Once we got up there, we found that several of the original mounting bolts were missing. This happens often with older commercial buildings in downtown Toronto - hardware corrodes, gets stripped during removal, or just disappears. We used our own masonry anchors and lag bolts to secure the canopies properly. Each bracket got a wall anchor plus a bolt to make sure the awning would hold through wind and weather.

We also added safety cables to the canopy frames. This is something we do on every overhead installation where a falling piece could injure someone below. It is a small step that costs almost nothing and prevents a real liability problem.

While we had the ladder set up, the client asked us to replace a light bulb near the entrance - one of those round globe fixtures above the door. That is typical of how these jobs go. You show up for one thing, and because the ladder is already there, the client gets two or three problems solved in one visit.
Why restaurants are good clients
We have worked with a lot of restaurant and bar owners across Toronto, and they tend to be straightforward. They know what their building needs to look like for customers. They see the value in maintenance because their business depends on appearance. The owner at 7 West paid promptly and even left a tip, which is always appreciated.

If you run a restaurant, cafe, or bar in Toronto and your exterior needs attention - whether that is window cleaning, awning maintenance, or exterior cleaning - we are set up to handle it. We carry $2M liability insurance and work at heights regularly with proper safety gear.

Commercial exterior services in Toronto

Old buildings in downtown Toronto have specific maintenance challenges. Brick facades shift, mortar degrades, and hardware that was fine five years ago can fail. We see this on nearly every commercial job we do.
For restaurants and retail in areas like Yorkville, the Village, or along Queen Street, your storefront is the first thing people see. Loose awnings, dirty windows, or broken fixtures cost you customers before they even walk in. A quick seasonal maintenance visit covers a lot of ground: we can clean your exterior windows, check your signage hardware, clear your gutters, and handle small repairs while we are on site.
If you have a multi-story building, we handle the access - you do not need to rent scaffolding or hire a separate crew. Our team works with extension ladders and harnesses for anything up to four stories, and we know the WSIB and safety requirements inside out.
