DT Cleaning technician on extension ladder at two-storey brick house in Etobicoke for downspout repair and eavestrough cleaning

Gutter cleaning, window cleaning, and downspout repair in Etobicoke - one visit, three services

By Dmitriy Trubnik, Owner of DT Cleaning | March 22, 2026

A homeowner in Etobicoke called us for gutter cleaning and window cleaning on the same visit. This is one of the most common service combos we handle in Etobicoke. Two services, one crew. When we arrived, it was obvious this house had been sitting for a while. The eavestroughs were packed with debris - you could see the buildup from the ground without even climbing a ladder.

Then the homeowner told us the downspout on the corner had come off during the winter. The weight of wet, frozen debris pulled it away from the wall. That turned a two-service call into three.

The downspout had pulled away from the wall

The corner downspout had separated from the eavestrough above. This is something we see in Etobicoke every spring - debris accumulates in the fall, water freezes inside the downspout over winter, and the added weight pulls the fasteners out of the brick. Once it separates, water runs straight down the exterior wall instead of draining to grade.

Dmitriy quoted the homeowner $30 for the downspout repair since they already had two other services booked. We reattached the downspout to the wall with new brackets, reconnected it to the eavestrough above, and made sure the angle was correct for proper drainage.

Gutter cleaning on a house that had not been touched in years

The eavestroughs on this house were heavily loaded. Compacted leaves, shingle grit, and organic sludge had built up over what looked like multiple seasons without a cleaning. Every section had standing debris, and several of the downspout openings were partially blocked.

We cleared the full system by hand, working from the roofline around the entire house. After clearing the debris, we flushed each downspout to make sure water was flowing all the way to grade. Two of the four downspouts needed to be cleared from inside before they drained properly.

If you have been searching for gutter cleaning in Etobicoke or eavestrough cleaning in Etobicoke, this is the kind of job we see regularly. Houses that go more than a year without cleaning tend to have secondary problems - blocked downspouts, shifted pitch, or cracked joints - that only show up once you get up there.

Roof damage found during the inspection

While we were up at the roofline, we noticed damage to the shingles. There were areas where water was getting through to the underlayment, which likely meant water was making its way into the house during heavy rain. We took photos and showed them to the homeowner. Roof repair is outside our scope, but we always flag what we find so the homeowner can get it addressed before it turns into a bigger problem.

Window cleaning after five or six years

The homeowner also booked us for window cleaning. The windows had not been cleaned in five or six years. The buildup was heavy - hardened mineral deposits, oxidized dirt, and organic film that had bonded to the glass over multiple seasons.

When windows sit that long, a standard wash is not enough. We had to work each pane with more pressure and more passes than usual. The frames and sills needed extra attention too. It took longer than a typical window cleaning job, but the difference was obvious once we finished.

If you are looking for window cleaning and gutter cleaning from the same crew on the same visit, that is how most of our Etobicoke clients book us. One crew, one visit, everything done at once.

Frequently asked questions

Can you do gutter cleaning and window cleaning on the same visit?

Yes. Most of our clients in Etobicoke book both services together. One crew handles everything in a single visit. It saves time and usually costs less than booking two separate appointments.

Why did my downspout fall off over the winter?

When debris accumulates inside a downspout, water freezes around it in the winter. The added weight pulls the brackets out of the wall. This is common on brick homes in Etobicoke where the mortar around the fasteners has softened over time. Keeping gutters clean in the fall prevents this.

How much does it cost to reattach a downspout?

A basic downspout reattachment with new brackets typically costs $30 to $80 depending on the height and material. If the downspout itself is damaged and needs replacement, the cost is higher. We often include minor repairs at a reduced rate when they are part of a larger cleaning visit.

How often should I clean my windows and gutters in Etobicoke?

Eavestroughs should be cleaned twice a year - once in late spring and once in late fall. Windows benefit from at least one cleaning per year, though homes near busy roads or under heavy tree cover may need two. Waiting five or six years makes the job significantly harder and more expensive.

Do you check the roof during gutter cleaning?

When we are at roofline, we do a visual check of the shingles and flashing. If we see damage or signs of water getting in, we take photos and let you know. We do not do roof repairs, but catching problems early can save thousands in water damage.

Is DT Cleaning insured for work in Etobicoke?

Yes. DT Cleaning carries $2 million in commercial general liability insurance. All technicians are WSIB compliant and hold Working at Heights certification. We service Etobicoke, Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Mississauga, and the wider GTA.
