Two calls on the same day. One from North York, one from downtown Toronto. Both wanted us out the same week.
The first job was gutter cleaning on a large two-storey home where pine cones had packed every single downspout. The second was window cleaning on a century-old brick row house with arched stained glass panels that one wrong move could destroy.
Here is what each job looked like and what we found.
Gutter Cleaning in North York: Every Downspout Was Blocked
The homeowner called for two things: a full eavestrough cleaning and a pressure washing estimate. When our crew arrived, the problem was obvious from the ground. A tall pine tree sits right next to the house, and its cones and needles had been falling into the gutters for at least a year.

Once we got on the roof, we found every single downspout completely packed. Not just leaves. Pine cones, pine needles, and compacted organic debris had formed solid plugs in the elbows. Water had nowhere to go.

We cleared the entire system by hand and flushed each downspout with water to confirm flow. The eavestroughs had clearly been neglected for a while, but the roof itself was in fair shape.

What We Found During the Pressure Washing Estimate
While inspecting the facade for the pressure washing quote, we found damage on the front of the house. Stone and stucco deterioration caused by water that had been running behind the siding. This was not a cleaning problem. The roof edge was not properly flashed, and water had been seeping into the wall for a long time.
We told the homeowner straight: you need a roofer, not a pressure washer. Cleaning the facade without fixing the source would just be a waste of money. We gave him our honest recommendation and moved on to the next job.

Heritage Window Cleaning in Downtown Toronto
This one came in through Instagram. A homeowner in one of Toronto's older neighborhoods had a three-storey Victorian row house with windows that had not been cleaned in a while.
The first thing you notice on these houses is the arched decorative windows with stained glass panels above the main windows. You cannot use standard cleaning techniques on glass that is over a hundred years old. Pressure will crack it. Rough pads will scratch it. Every panel needs careful hand-cleaning with soft tools and zero pressure.

Working Behind the Screens
Each room had four sliding window panels. To clean behind the screens properly, our crew had to go room by room, remove each screen, pull each slider out of the track, clean the glass on both sides, wipe down the frame, and reassemble. Four panels per room across three floors.

The backyard was another challenge. There was no space to set up a 40-foot extension ladder, so our team worked with a shorter ladder from tight angles. The front was more straightforward. The big ladder went up, the blue pads protected the sill, and we worked top to bottom.

"I forgot how much light this house gets."
What These Two Jobs Have in Common
Both calls were from homeowners who waited a bit too long. The North York gutters had at least a full year of buildup. The downtown windows had enough grime that you could not tell if the glass was tinted or just dirty.
Spring is when most homeowners in Toronto notice these things. The snow melts, the rain starts, and suddenly you see the mess that winter left behind. Gutters overflow during the first real downpour. Windows look foggy when the sun finally comes through.
